At the Dancing Party
(Ivy and Danny Dialogue/Monologue)
(It’s 5 p.m. Danny and Ivy’s friend, Tom, had a dance party, and they were invited to go. Now at the party.)
(Danny’s girlfriend, Mary, left him at home four weeks ago. She said she was going to India, and she will call Danny everyday. But she didn’t call from three weeks ago. Danny was upset these days. He did not go to work, he was just stayed at home drinking and sleeping all day. Ivy was worried about him; Tom told Ivy that he invited Danny to the party, so she came to see how was Danny.)
(Danny is sitting outside the house. Every one is dancing in the house, except him, he’s drinking and eating outside; Ivy comes and sits with him.)
Ivy: Hey! Danny, how was the party?
Danny: Fine, pretty good. (With a low voice.)
Ivy: How were you doing these days? Are you okay?
Danny: (J at Ivy.) Well, I’m good. Better than before. And you?
Ivy: (J at Danny) Sure. I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. How’s Mary? Did she call you?
Danny: (/. .\) No, she didn’t call me. Besides, I’m not thinking about her anymore.
(Here comes Tom.)
Tom: Hey, guys! How’s my dancing party? Do you like it? Did you have fun with them?
Danny: I like it, thanks for inviting me.
Ivy: Hi, Tom! Long time no see. I love this party.
Tom: Thank you for coming. Have fun, okay? I’ll see you around.
Danny & Ivy: Okay. See you!
(Tom walks into the house.)
Ivy: Danny, you sure you’re okay? Do you want to talk? Or go for a walk? Have a cap of coffee with me?
Danny: (/._.\) No, thanks. I want to go home. I’m tired. See you around.
Ivy: Oh. If you have anything want t talk about or tell, you could call me if you want. I will listen.
Danny: Thank you for being so kind to me. Bye.
(Danny goes home by himself, alone.)
Ivy: Poor Danny, he seems so lonely. I think he’s still love in Mary, and cannot forget her. Why doesn’t Mary call back? I hope I could give him a hand, not just standing a side, watching him upset.

回覆刪除Dancing Party
(Point of view. Cat)
Hi! I’m Christine; I’m tom’s favorite pet, a cat. I have a long furry tail; I’m brown and black fur and have two big yellow eyes.
Today, tom is going to have a dance party at 5 in the evening, he’s going to invite Danny, Ivy, Jack and all his friends.
It’s only 1 o’clock. Tom starts to prepare for the party in the evening. After one hour, the doorbell rings. “Ding ~ ding ~ ”. “I’m coming! ” Tom yells. Ivy is standing in front of the door; tom is surprised that ivy came so early. “Ivy, why are you so early? It’s only ten after two.” “I’m here for giving a hand. I’m free all day, nothing to do, so I’m here.” “Thanks a lot. I do need help. Oh, please, come on in. Can you help me with the balloon?” “Sure, let me handle it.” So they start to make arrangements for the party, balloons, cakes, cookies, sandwiches, soda, etc. They have all the things right in the room. And as the time past, the guests are coming, some are early and some are late.
Finally, it’s almost five, and the party is all set. There are pies, cakes, cookies, soda, and sandwiches on the table. They change the light into another light that is for the dance party, and they put the dance music into the player. So the party begins on 5 o’clock.
Everyone was there at the party, but Danny didn’t come, and no one knows why. After ten minutes. The doorbell rings. “Ding~ dong~.” “Here comes Danny.” Tom mentions that. “Well, here I am.” Danny tells everyone. So they start the party again, and everyone is here.
I walked around, and I ate my dinner before I go to the garden, to see what is Danny & Ivy doing. Danny looks pretty bad. Looks like he hasn’t eaten anything right these days. He had pasty-faced, but he is still drinking beer, I don’t know what’s he thinking about. Ivy walks to him and brings him a plate of vegetables and fruits.
“You seem terrible. You’ve got pasty-faced, what have you done these days? Here’re some fruits and vegetables, have some, okay?” Ivy said worried. I’m right behind them, and I look like a “cat” spy, using my ears, listening to what are they talking about. “Okay, thanks a lot.” Danny said thankfully. Then he takes the apple and has a bite on it. “Wow! That’s delicious.” Danny said happily.J “Are you all right? Looks like you weren’t happy. How’s Mary? Did she call?” Ivy asks. “No, she is still missing. She didn’t call me, didn’t write a letter to me. I packed her things that she didn’t take to India. And I am starting not to thinking about her. What’s wrong?” “Nothing. Just seeing you still drinking, not sleeping, I felt worried.” “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. Excuse me for a moment, I need to get some more food, now.” “Okay.”
So Danny goes away, and Ivy too. I felt sad about the things happened from Danny. I think Danny’s girlfriend is a bad person. She left Danny alone, and went to India. I think Danny still loves at her, and he didn’t want her leave him. Poor Danny.
I’m tired now. It’s 12 o’clock. Oh my god! I have to go to sleep. Bye-bye.

回覆刪除The Poem ...... by Christine
The Report of Design
The speaker found a dimpled spider; it’s fat and white, and a moth on a heal-all is white (which means good, right, and the right side). But the spider killed the moth on a heal-all. This poem is telling the readers an ironic story. The spider looked familiar but had a bad heart. Life is week and spineless, almost everything can harm it.
The speaker describes himself (herself) to be the moth in the poem, and the spider is like the devil, the fate, and controls death. Even the moth is on a heal-all; it is still dying. So I think the speaker is afraid of fate, like the moth on the heal-all, it is on the heal-all is because it thinks the heal-all can save it, but at last, it still died on the heal-all, and the spider (death, or fate) still take it’s life.
The fate became a spider, maybe is because it looked nice, but inside the spider is a bad heart, so the spider should be bad enough, and the speaker believes in fate.
The speaker believes in fate, but he can’t fight or against the fate, so I think the speaker is telling us another thing, that is: fate is like time. Because you know there’s fate, but you can’t catch it, and so do time. We know the time is all around us, but we can’t catch it, stop it, or fight against it, and that’s the ironic part of this poem.

回覆刪除Firecrackers (Draft) by Christine
Chinese New Year is a big holiday for the Chinese. We use a lot of ways to celebrate the Chinese New Year, like, families get together, having a big dinner in the New Year’s Eve and parents give their children some lucky money. But the noisiest way to observe it is to fire the firecrackers. We usually fire the firecrackers on the midnight on the New Year’s Eve. It means to welcome the New Year, and to scare the bad things and bad luck away from us. It can bring our family good luck, too. So the firecrackers are very important for the Chinese and the Chinese New Year.
Long time ago, there was a year monster; it lived on the mountains. It would sleep all year long until the New Year’s Day. On that day the monster would get up, and then would have a big feast in the villages. So all the people who lived in the villages, would run for their lives before the New Year’s Day.
But, one New Year’s Eve, there was a boy wit his mother who didn’t run away. The boy got a badly ill, and his mom chose to stay with him at home. At the last five minutes before midnight, a lovely fairy came into the boy’s house. “Do not worry. I know a way to expel the monster. Just take out some firecrackers and fire it, the monster will go away. That’s because the monster doesn’t like the sound. ” The fairy said to the boy’s mother, and then she left them. The boy’s mom did what the fairy had told her, and she realized the fairy was right.
So the day after the New Year’s Day, the boy and his mother told the villager how did the fairy said, and how did they scared the monster away from the village. After that, the people know the Year Monster was afraid of the sound of the firecrackers, so they would fire the firecrackers on the midnight of New Year’s Eve.
Poem
回覆刪除Written by Christine Fang 9/31/2005
The poem is made for a person that is very close to the speaker. The person is so ill that the speaker has to take him away from a place he would not want to stay, because he wants to spend his time with the speaker. And takes him to a place that is quiet with no other lights. “You are so ill so I lead you away and put you to bed in the dark room.” In the room there is a bed. The person lies down and breathes softly. The speaker holds the person’s hand, and feels the person’s tiredness. “-you lie breathing softly and I hold your hand feeling the fingertips relax as sleep comes.”
“you will not sleep more than a few hours,” because the person may not be cured. “and the illness is less serious than my anger or cruelty.” The speaker’s anger or cruelty is bigger than the person’s illness. “and the dark room is like a foretaste of other darkness to come later, which all of us must endure alone, but here I am permitted to be with you.” This dark room makes the speaker feels fear. He fears that the close person will go away from him and not come back because of the illness. Even though, the darkness will still come to the speaker and the person, and they still have to face it alone, like death. But here, right now the speaker and the person aren’t alone, because they are together.
“After a while in sleep your fingers clutch tightly and I know that whatever may be happening, the fear coiled in dreams or the bright trespass of pain.” After a while, when the person is in sleep, there are probably something the person fears coiling his dreams, or something that hurts him in the vision of the dreams. “there is nothing at all I can do, except hold your hand and not go away.” But the speaker can’t do anything to help him. The only thing the speaker can help is to stay with him and hold his hand.
The speaker must care about the person very much, and they must be very close to each other. Why? As you can see, in the poem, the speaker will like to stay with the person, and hope not to lose him. But everyone dies, maybe the person died before the speaker, so the speaker writes the poem to memorize the person that they are always together.
